Die Analyse tatsächlichen Spielverhaltens bei Onlineglücksspielen

Positionspapier zu Möglichkeiten und Grenzen

Abstract

Fragestellung: Dieses Positionspapier widmet sich der Frage nach den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Analyse tatsächlichen Glücksspielverhaltens und insbesondere, ob es eine geeignete Alternative zu üblichen Befragungsansätzen ist, problematische und pathologische Spieler zu identifizieren. Methodik: Die Methodik, Ergebnisse und Limitationen bisheriger Studien zur Analyse des Spiel-, Biet- und Setzverhaltens von Onlineglücksspielern werden vorgestellt und diskutiert. Ergebnisse: Die Analyse tatsächlichen Spielverhaltens eröffnet interessante Analysemöglichkeiten. Jede einzelne Studie liefert wichtige Erkenntnisse, die weiter entwickelt werden können. Jedoch ohne eine Definition wie ein auffälliges, risiko- oder problembehaftetes Spielverhalten aussieht, ist eine Identifizierung gefährdeter Spieler nicht möglich. Diesbezüglich erlaubt von den vorgestellten Untersuchungen, die ein ungefiltertes Spielersample analysiert haben lediglich eine Studie eine Aussage. Schlussfolgerungen: Die Analyse tatsächlichen Spielverhaltens bei typischen Onlineglücksspielen ermöglicht aufgrund der Unverfälschtheit der Informationen sowie deren hohen Detailgrad verschiedene neue Forschungsoptionen. Insbesondere ist sie eine alternative Möglichkeit, um Personen mit Spielproblemen zu identifizieren. Bei Spielern mit signifikantem Geschicklichkeitsanteil wie dem Pokerspiel führt diese Methode jedoch zu dem fehlerhaften Einschluss von professionellen Spielern. So muss beispielsweise bei Poker das detailliertere Biet- und Setzverhalten der Spieler untersucht werden, um zwischen pathologischen und professionellen Spielern zu unterscheiden.


Analyzing Real Online Gambling Behavior: A Position Paper on Opportunities and Limitations

Aim: This position paper deals with possibilities and limitations of the actual playing behavior in general and more specific if it is an appropriate alternative to the current assessment and screening instrument in order to identify problem or pathological gambling. Method: Method, results and limitations of former surveys concerning the playing and betting behavior of Internet gambling are introduced and discussed. Results: Each of the survey offers important findings. Yet, there is no identification of at-risk players possible without having a definition of problem playing behavior or gambling behavior at risk. There is only one of the presented studies which satisfies this requirement. Conclusions: The analysis of the actual online gambling behavior offers different and new research possibilities due to unbiased information. In particular it is a new way of identifying people with gambling problems. That does not hold, though, for skill games like poker where the influence of skill is large enough that professionals can play with a positive expected value and win in the long run. In these cases the betting behavior of the players has to be analyzed in detail, in order to distinguish between professional and pathological gamblers.
