Zusammenfassung. Die Pyrrhiche war der wichtigste Kriegstanz im antiken Griechenland. Er wurde als Einzel- und Gruppentanz getanzt. Wer ihn tanzte, mußte eine exzellente physische Kondition und außerordentliches Geschick in der Handhabung der Waffen haben. Es ist bekannt, daß die Pyrrhiche Teil der Panathenäischen Spiele von Athen war und von Tänzern geprobt wurde. Die Pyrrhiche war ein Motiv in der Kunst und Literatur, oft im mythologischen Zusammenhang. Berühmte Pyrrhiche-Tänzer waren die Koureten und Amazonen, die zu Ehren der Artemis tanzten. The Pyrrhiche war ein wichtiger Bestandteil des Alltagslebens, der Erziehung und des Rituals.
Abstract. The Pyrrhiche was the most important dance in armour in ancient Greece. Its forms were the single dance and the group dance. It was necessary that a good dancer had excellent physical condition and extreme skill and dexterity in handling the weapons. We know that the Pyrrhiche was part of the Panathenaic Games at Athens, and that it was rehearsed by choreographs. The Pyrrhiche was a motive in art and literature, often in mythological context. Famous dancers of the Pyrrhiche were the Couretes of Crete and the Amazons who danced in honor of Artemis. The Pyrrhiche was a significant part of daily life, education and ritual in Greek life.
