Streß, Krankheit und Bewältigung: Bewältigen Jugendliche mit Diabetes Alltagsstressoren weniger kompetent als gesunde Jugendliche?

Abstract

Zusammenfassung. Der Einfluß einer chronischen Erkrankung auf die Bewältigung von Alltagsstressoren wurde in einer Längsschnittstudie über vier Jahre analysiert. Bei 107 gesunden und 89 diabetischen Jugendlichen wurde die Belastung durch Alltagsstressoren sowie die Bewältigung von Alltagsstressoren einmal jährlich untersucht. Gesunde und an Diabetes erkrankte Jugendliche unterschieden sich nicht in der erlebten Belastung durch Streß und auch nicht in der Rangfolge der Stressoren, die als besonders belastend eingeschätzt wurden. Auffällige Unterschiede zwischen beiden Gruppen bestanden dagegen in der Bewältigung dieser Alltagsstressoren. An Diabetes erkrankte Jugendliche wiesen einen weniger aktiven Copingstil und auch weniger internale Reflexion über Lösungsmöglichkeiten auf. Besonders deutlich traten diese Unterschiede - im Vergleich zu gesunden Jugendlichen - in bezug auf Alltagsstressoren in den Bereichen Schule, Gleichaltrige, anderes Geschlecht und Freizeit zutage. Verschiedene Ursachen für diesen wenig aktiven Umgang mit alltäglichen Problemen werden diskutiert.


Stress, chronic illness, and coping: Are adolescents with diabetes less competent in coping with minor stressors?

Abstract. The impact of chronic illness on adolescents' competence in coping with minor stressors was analyzed in a longitudinal study with four annual assessments. Stress perception and coping style in dealing with minor stressors was assessed annually in 107 healthy adolescents and 89 adolescents with diabetes. Although adolescents with diabetes and their healthy peers experienced similar levels of minor stressors and also did not differ in type of stressor perceived as most stressful over time, their way of coping with these minor stressors strongly diverge. Compared to their healthy agemates, adolescents with diabetes were less active copers and also reflect less about how to deal with minor stressors, particularly in the domains school, peers, romantic relations, and leisure time. Different factors are discussed, which may have contributed to the less active coping style in diabetic adolescents.
