Mentale Modelle von mentalen Zuständen und Handlungen der Textprotagonisten
Abstract
Abstract. This research work addresses the issue whether mental models including the representation of the protagonist's mental state allow readers to detect inconsistencies. An experiment with 48 adults was carried out by using texts describing a situation where the protagonist held an implied mental state (either knowledge or false belief) about the location of an object or another character. The texts also mentioned a protagonist's action that was either consistent or inconsistent with her mental state. The results suggest that readers construct mental models that facilitate the detection of the protagonist's inconsistent actions.
