Abstract
Abstract. Based on a recovery-oriented approach, this case study reflects the ongoing trauma-centred, movement psychotherapeutic treatment of a woman who spent the last six years in and out of psychiatric hospitals. By using the method of reflective casuistry, three narratives reveal the various processes this woman has been going through: the narrative of psychiatric treatment, the narrative of her biography and the narrative of the movement psychotherapy process. For this therapy, understandings of recovery and of the functional and emotional meanings of the body were crucial as severe traumatic experiences had profoundly affected the woman’s body, its movement capacity and communicative repertoire. The results so far are promising and suggest the possibility of integrating the body in trauma therapy.
