Abstract
Abstract. The present study asks whether being compliant moderates the effect of an exercise-intervention on various aspects of quality of life, physical and psychological well-being, and immune parameters in a sample of HIV-1-positive individuals. A pre-, post-test design with three groups (low, middle, and high compliance) was used. The final sample consisted of 24 HIV-1 people, 7 in the low, 8 in the middle, and 9 in the high compliance group. Health-related quality of life improved and the mean of general symptoms reduced significantly in the high and middle compliance groups compared to the low compliance group. Psychological well-being, the appearance of opportunistic infections, and immune indices did not vary between the three groups. Based on these findings, it is suggested that a high compliance with an exercise intervention may enhance health-related quality of life and physical well-being in HIV-1-positive individuals.
