Call for Papers: “Sex and Gender Differences Revisited – New Perspectives and New Findings”

A Topical Issue of the Zeitschrift für Psychologie / Journal of Psychology

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1027/2151-2604/a000071

Sex and gender are probably the most investigated interindividual factors in all areas of psychology. Although they have been studied for more than a hundred years, there has been an explosion of theories and research in this area in the past several years. There is still debate as to whether psychological differences between men and women truly exist, and if so, where they originate from. New research takes into account biological and social factors as well as the interaction between the two and addresses “the small difference” within this psychobiosocial approach. The focus of this topical issue of the Zeitschrift für Psychologie / Journal of Psychology on “Sex and Gender Differences Revisited – New Perspectives and New Findings” is limited neither to bio-/neuropsychological nor to social or educational psychological research but seeks to encourage submissions that particularly advance knowledge with new perspectives – such as the explicit integration of different approaches within a psychobiosocial view. We are looking for original empirical articles as well as review-type articles that focus on the interpretation of a larger number of studies concerning sex and gender, preferably in the form of meta-analyses.

How to submit: Interested authors should submit a letter of intent including: (1) a working title for the manuscript, (2) names, affiliations, and contact information for all authors, and (3) an abstract detailing the content of the proposed manuscript to either of the guest editors:

Markus Hausmann () or

Barbara Schober ().

There is a two-stage submission process. Initially, authors are requested to submit only abstracts of their proposed papers. Authors requested to submit full papers should then do so. All papers will undergo full peer review.

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts is July 31, 2011.
  • Deadline for submission of full papers is October 31, 2011.

The journal seeks to maintain a short turnaround time, with the final version of the accepted papers being due by January 21, 2012. The topical issue will be published as Issue 2 (2012).

For additional information, please contact:

Markus Hausmann () or

Barbara Schober ().
