Abstract
Abstract: A male (S.W.) and a female patient (M.E.) with right hemisphere lesions and hemispatial neglect conducted line bisection in near and far space using alternately right and left hand. S.W. showed improvement using his contralesional limb in near space. This effect was missing or opposite in far space. M.E. showed improvement only in far space using her contralesional limb. Results could be replicated several times. Neglect in extrapersonal space was more pronounced than in peripersonal space by both patients. The dissociational effect of contralesional activity on neglect in peri- and extrapersonal space was interpreted as a support for the hypotheses of different attentional systems for these spacial functions. Results are compatible with animal models and PET-Studies of healthy subjects.
