Cannabis und Lunge – Chill or Kill?

Cannabis ist die am meisten konsumierte illegale Droge in der westlichen Welt. Da Joints mit Zigaretten viele gemeinsame Substanzen enthalten, liegt die Vermutung nahe, dass Cannabisrauchen mit ähnlichen Risiken vergesellschaftet ist wie Zigarettenrauchen. Die Datenlage dazu ist aber noch unzureichend und widersprüchlich. Gründe dafür sind unter anderen die ungenaue Mengenangabe, die Tatsache, dass der Cannabiskonsum illegal ist sowie die Schwierigkeit, die Auswirkungen von Tabak und Cannabis, die häufig im gleichen Joint verwendet werden, zu trennen.

Cannabis is the most widely comsumed illicit drug in the western world. Cannabis and tobacco smoke contain a similar mix of irritant and toxic chemicals. Therefore, there are reasons to suspect, that cannabis and tobacco have similar side effects. However, the pulmonary effects of smoking cannabis have not been extensively researched and the few findings are contradictory. Among the reasons for this uncertainty are its illegal status and the common practice of combining cannabis with tobacco. Separating the effects of the two substances is therefore difficult.
