Abstract
Abstract. The ASIWAF (Adaptive Strategies In Work And Family research) questionnaire is a new multidimensional diagnostic tool for assessing adaptive strategies being used by dual-earner families to reconcile the incompatibilities of work and family life. The present contribution informs on the development of the ASIWAF questionnaire as well as on first experiences based on a non-representative sample of dual-earner couples with young children (N = 389 couples). Altogether, the psychometric analyses concerning the factorial validity, internal consistency, retest reliability and differential validity of the ASIWAF scales turned out to be quite satisfactory according to common standards. Thus, the ASIWAF questionnaire might be used as a promising diagnostic instrument to the benefit of a resources-oriented approach in work-family research. Further research is deemed necessary based on a representative sample of dual-earner families. Moreover, additional validation studies are warranted.
