Kortikale Informationsverarbeitungsprozesse bei Vätern von Kindern mit Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit-/Hyperaktivitätsstörung (ADHS): eine Pilotstudie mit langsamen Hirnpotenzialen

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1024/1016-264X/a000041

Cortical Information Processing in Fathers with Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): a Slow Cortical Potential Pilot Study

Background/Objectives: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common heridititory neurodevelopmental disorder that starts in childhood and frequently persists in adults. Not much is known about the cortical information processing of fathers of children suffering from ADHD. The aim of the study was to investigate the cortical information processing of the fathers using the contingent negative variation (CNV) paradigm. Methods: 14 fathers (mean age 39,4 years) of ADHD children compared with 14 healthy controls (mean age 36,7 years) patients were tested with a contingent negative variation (CNV-) paradigm. We recorded amplitudes of CNV (Cz and Fz) and we calculated habituation slopes. Results: Between groups highly significant differences emerged in a reduced CNV reaction time and a faster habituation within ADHD fathers. Moreover, fathers of ADHD children showed significant higher CNV amplitudes in the frontal area. Conclusion: Fathers of children with ADHD show similar slow potentials as children. The cortical information deficit processing in ADHD could be discussed as genetic disposition, as well as an epigenetic determination.
