Abstract
Abstract. Background: The most widely used self-report measures of schizotypy are the Chapman scales Physical Anhedonia (PA), Social Anhedonia (SA), and Perceptual Aberration (PAB). Objective: To test reliability and validity properties of German versions of the Chapman scales. Methods: The Chapman scales were administered to 83 schizophrenic patients and 83 normal controls. In the patient group negative and positive symptoms (SANS, SAPS) were also assessed. Results: The Chapman scales showed satisfactory internal consistency (alpha: .73-.87) in both groups. The schizophrenics scored significantly higher than the controls on the scales PA and PAB. Male schizophrenics reported significantly higher SA than male controls. Within the patient group, PA and SA correlated positively with negative symptoms, PAB with positive symptoms. Moderate to high retest-reliability was observed (rtt: .54-.87) for the schizotypy scales in a 3-month follow-up study with 36 schizophrenics. Conclusions: In summary, the results support the reliability and validity of the German versions of the Chapman scales.
