Welcome From the New Editorial Team

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1027/2192-0923/a000235

This issue of Aviation Psychology and Applied Human Factors (APAHF) is the first overseen by the new editorial team, with Dr. Julia Behrend assuming the role of Editor-in-Chief and Dr. Matthew Thomas assuming the role of Editor. We are both honored to be appointed to these roles, and excited to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of the journal.

We thank the former Editor-in-Chief Dr. Harald Kolrep for the handover, the EAAP President Dr. Michaela Schwarz, the AAvPA President Dr. Melanie Todd, the boards and members of both associations for their trust as well as the Hogrefe Publishing team for their support. Many thanks to the Associate Editors, the Editorial Board, and all reviewers who continue the journey with us. Finally, a special thanks goes to all authors for their original and high-quality articles.

The interface between good science and practical application is a strength of the journal we wish to see expand over the coming years. Our continued efforts to enhance aviation safety can only be met by the application of scientific rigour to current and emerging issues facing our industry.

On one hand, good science is necessarily about striving for the best research design, rigour in execution, precision in analysis, and innovative approaches to difficult questions. Under our leadership, and with the assistance of the Associate Editors and reviewers, we will strive to continually ensure the research chosen for publication in APAHF demonstrates the highest quality science in our field.

On the other hand, practical application of this science is essential, such that today’s research can guide tomorrow’s safety enhancement. Again, we will aim to ensure that the research chosen to be published in APAHF always provides clear guidance for affording meaningful and positive change towards maintaining aviation as an ultra-safe transportation system.

Over the next few issues we will work towards some enhancements to the journal, including improved guidance for authors, especially in terms of expectations for the structure of articles, and setting minimum standards with respect to human research ethics and declarations of author’s interests as they relate to the techniques, tools, or technologies under investigation. Further, we will look towards increasing the indexing of the journal and its ranking in terms of quality and impact in our field. At the same time, we will encourage PhD students and junior researchers to contribute to the journal.

We are always looking to increase the group of reviewers for the journal. We are happy to receive reviewer nominations or any suggestions at this address:
