Abstract
Abstract. Despite the fact that the topic of religiosity and spirituality (R/S) is becoming increasingly important in medicine, there is a dearth of research on physicians’ religious attitudes and its influence on ethical decision-making in Switzerland. The present study therefore evaluates the influence of R/S on physicians’ handling with ethically controversial medical questions. The results show that religious doctors have more reservations with regard to physician-assisted suicide, induced abortion or the prescription of contraception to minors. A further analysis also reveals denominational differences: Evangelical physicians have more reservations, followed by Catholic and Protestant physicians.
