<B>Ziel:</B> Mit dem Epidemiologischen Suchtsurvey 2003 werden die Beobachtungen des Konsums illegaler Drogen bei Erwachsenen in Deutschland fortgesetzt. </P><P> <B>Methode:</B> Die Stichprobe umfasst 8.061 Personen im Alter von 18 bis 59 Jahren. Die Datenerhebung erfolgte schriftlich, die Antwortrate betrug 55 %. </P><P> <B>Ergebnisse:</B> Die Lebenszeitprävalenz des Konsums von Cannabis, Amphetaminen, Ecstasy und Kokain/Crack der 18-bis 39-Jährigen ist signifikant gestiegen. Nach der Severity Dependence Skala wurden 1,1 % der Stichprobe als cannabisabhängig und 0,1 % als kokainabhängig eingestuft. </P><P> <B>Schlussfolgerungen:</B> Die zunehmende Prävalenz des Gebrauchs illegaler Drogen ist vor allem auf den Anstieg des Cannabiskonsums zurückzuführen. Die wachsende Zahl von Cannabiskonsumenten erfordert effektive präventive Maßnahmen.


Illicit drugs use, age of onset and trends. Results of the 2003 Epidemiological Survey of Substance Abuse

<B>Aim:</B> With the 2003 Epidemiological Survey of Substance Abuse (ESA), the monitoring of the use illegal drugs in the German adult population was continued. </P><P> <B>Method:</B> The sample consisted of 8,061 18 to 59 year-old adults. The survey used self-administered questionnaires; the response rate was 55 %. </P><P> <B>Results:</B> Among 18 to 39 year olds, lifetime prevalence of the use of cannabis, amphetamines, Ecstacy and cocaine/crack has increased significantly. According to the Severity of Dependence scale, 1.1 % of the sample were cannabis dependent and 0.1 cocaine dependent. </P><P> <B>Conclusions:</B> The increase in the prevalence drug use is mainly due to an increase in cannabis use. The growing number of cannabis users calls for effective drug prevention.
