Berufs-Interessen-Test
Überprüfung der psychometrischen Eigenschaften einer aktualisierten Fassung (BIT-II-A)
Abstract
Abstract. The German vocational interest test BIT-II was developed in 1984 and since then several authors have stated the need for an update. In a sample of 366 German and Swiss secondary school students, we measured vocational interests both with an updated version of the BIT-II and with additional instruments to examine the validity of the revised version. Overall, there were some differences in the means of the old and new version; however, both instruments showed a similar factor structure and raw score distribution. Furthermore, we found expected correlations with the six RIASEC dimensions (as measured by Explorix) and a measure of cognitive functioning, indicating good convergent and discriminant validities. Finally, expected correlations with favorite school subjects, school grades, and leisure time activities as well as incremental validity over the Explorix emerged. We conclude that the new BIT-II version is ready to temporarily replace the old one. However, the development of an additional scale for new jobs and further evidence of both construct- and criterion-related validity would be useful.
