Pornographiekonsum in der Partnerschaft

Häufigkeit, Motivation und Einstellung des Konsums und deren Geschlechtsunterschiede

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1026/1616-3443/a000611

Pornography Consumption in Intimate Relationships: Gender Differences in the Frequency, Motivation, and Attitude Toward Consumption

Abstract. Background: To understand the effects of pornography consumption on relationships, we need data regarding the experience of both own and common consumption. Objective: The present study provides an overview of the frequency, attitude, motivation, and consequences of pornography consumption among heterosexual couples. Methods: Men and women who lived in Switzerland, were between 18 and 65 years old, and were in a relationship of at least 1 year (N = 1,091) filled out an anonymous online survey. Results: Women consume less pornography than men, mainly because of a lack of interest. Men consume to relieve stress and because of relationship dissatisfaction, largely in secret, with guilty feelings and to the displeasure of their partner. Women consume with good feelings and the support of their partners. Conclusions: Gender differences in the consumption of pornography may lead to relationship conflicts. After coaching to instill fewer negative attitudes, consumption can have positive effects on the shared sexuality.
