Stand und Perspektiven der Personalpsychologie
Abstract
Abstract. Defining personnel psychology merely as a subdiscipline of industrial, work, and organizational psychology would ignore the fact that problems of research and application have to be considered as organization-, work-, or personnel-related, depending on contexts and goals. Here, personnel psychology is characterized as being mainly focused on the individual, as dealing with the fields of occupation and personnel, as primarily being interested in individual differences, and by its commitment to high scientific standards. Examples of research are described to clarify whether personnel psychology can be considered to play a leading role within industrial and organizational psychology. On the other hand, deficits are shown, e.g., in theory building and testing, as well as in practical cooperation and research communication, which are typical of a discipline equally orientated towards high scientific standards and to practical utility. Finally, problems of academic training and specialization are mentioned and potentially fertile research questions are suggested.
