Abstract
Abstract. The present study analyzed the frequency of music dreams in a long dream series (N = 10,398 dreams) reported by a single participant. Overall, about 5.41 % of the dreams of the series included music references such as listening to music, playing an instrument, singing, and talking about music or instruments. The analysis of different aspects, for example the settings, activities, music titles, and instruments, clearly indicated continuity between the waking life of the dreamer and his dreams. Emotionally intense music experiences (listening to live music) seemed more likely to be incorporated. Previous findings that music dreams are often accompanied by positive emotions were supported by the present study. Research in unselected samples as well as in musicians and music students using dream diaries and questionnaires eliciting day-time music activities will provide more knowledge about music in dreams.
