Abstract
Abstract. This article presents a form of expressive therapy using pantomime that was developed for children and adolescents. The working concept, further potentials of the method, and proposed mode of efficacy are discussed. We describe ways to integrate pantomime lessons as a therapeutic concept into a general pediatric ward, especially into work with young patients suffering from chronic diseases. The benefits of nonverbal attunement via pantomime are discussed in view of the fact that chronic diseases are often accompanied by emotional dysregulation and deficits in expressing emotions verbally. Furthermore, the results of a survey measuring patient satisfaction and felt help are illustrated. The sample consisted of n = 94 young patients who participated in pantomime lessons in a clinical setting and n = 36 of their parents. The results are promising; pantomime lessons in clinical pediatric care were broadly accepted by young patients and their parents.
