Sport und Selbstkonzeptentwicklung
Abstract
Abstract. The last decade has seen substantial progress in German-speaking research on sport psychology addressing “sports and personality development.” There has been a welcome shift from investigating traits (which are relatively stable over time) to using cognitive approaches (i.e., self-concept approaches) that has led to more consistent findings. Another positive trend is the integration of dynamic aspects of human personality - particularly through current approaches in developmental psychology that can be assigned to the dynamic interactionistic paradigm. However, a theoretical and methodological analysis of current studies on “sport and the development of self-concept” shows that there are still shortcomings in the implementation of these approaches in research. These shortcomings become particularly apparent when the methodological implementation of dynamic interactionism is considered: Person-centered approaches are still being neglected, and insufficient attention is being paid to the complexity of personality development.
