Abstract
In this article we provide a description of the assessment of mood disorders in patients with brain injuries (e.g., stroke, head trauma). Relevant diagnostic categories of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) and of the International Classification of Diseases - Chapter V (ICD-10) were described. Finally, the most problematic factors (e.g., cognitive consequences of brain injury) were discussed that diminish the reliability and validity of diagnostic information and complicate the assessment.
