Abstract
Abstract. Is there a difference between writing by hand or on the keyboard? This is a question often asked by supervisors and participants of writing workshops and the answer is simply, „Yes, there is a difference.“ It is difficult to make a recommendation about writing by hand or using the keyboard. Before writing this article, my guess was to make one’s own writing as flexible and variegated as possible and in doing so address one’s moods and impulses. After a literature search and in view of the study results, with respect to creative and therapeutic writing I would recommend writing by hand because it results in more complex motor and cognitive demands that are expressed in enhanced memory capacity, in stimulated thinking, and in increased text production, which can have positive effects on creative and therapeutic writing. Ultimately, it can be said: Whoever can use both systems will profit the most.
