Eine Therapiestudie zur Behandlung des visuellen Neglekts mittels Prismenadaptation

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1024/1016-264X.20.4.271

A Study on the Treatment of Visual Neglect by the Use of Prism Adaptation

Neglect recovery after prism adaptation treatment has been shown. However, there is no evidence about the effect sizes to be reached following prolonged prism adaptation therapy. Aims of the present study were to evaluate the effectiveness of prism adaptation on visual neglect and to compare the effect sizes with those of other treatment methods. 14 neglect patients underwent a prism adaptation treatment for four consecutive weeks (3x per week). Therapy effects were assessed by standard tests and an observer rating of neglect symptoms. Nine of the ten effect sizes for the neglect outcome measures were above 0.8 whereas those for the control parameters of attention were of moderate size. The comparison with published meta-analytical effect sizes of common treatments shows also high effectiveness of the prism adaptation therapy.
