Abstract
Abstract. This study investigates post-traumatic growth in a sample of people with traumatic spinal cord injury (N = 70). Besides the extent of posttraumatic growth, the study also examines with variance analytical methods the influence of age, level of injury, emotional distress, severity of the psychological shock, and support by family, friends, and other people with spinal cord injuries. Posttraumatic growth is measured by the German version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) and emotional distress with the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS). All other variables are collected with single items. 62,9 % of the participants experienced moderate posttraumatic growth. No additional relating factors could be unambiguously identified. Implications for practice and further research are discussed.
