Abstract
Abstract. Depression, mild cognitive impairment and dementia are frequently associated, particularly in old age. Similar neuropathological mechanisms seem to underlie and partly explain their mutual relationship and influence. We propose a brief review on the role of depression as a risk factor, a prodrome and a consequence of cognitive disorders and provide some thoughts on appropriate care options.
