Abstract
Abstract. A matter of interest is that of juvenile student's perspectives, with respect to self-assessments of their own behavior and of their parent-child relationship. This study focuses on self-reported symptoms of hyperactivity and attention deficit. A large sample of juvenile students (N = 2324; age: Ø 15.4 years) filled in the questionnaire “Elternbildfragebogen für Kinder und Jugendliche” (EBF-KJ) and the scale “hyperactivity / attention deficit” from the “Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire” (SDQ). The survey shows statistically significant differences in the general quality of parent-child-relationship and the individual strengths and weaknesses in the interaction with the mother or father depending on the strength of self-reported symptoms of ADHD according to the SDQ (original three-band categorisation from the SDQ: normal, borderline and abnormal). It is interesting to note that the “borderline group” partly shows significantly higher summing score on the risk-scales from the EBF-KJ and there are statistically significant differences between the “borderline group” and the “normal group”. Gender differences are observed and discussed, but the effect size is very low. Potential reasons are discussed and implications for daily work practice can be examined.
