Dargestellt an zwei Feldstudien
Abstract
Abstract. The relationship between regular physical activity in different contexts and health is still unknown when looking at the background of effective measures of health promotion. This relationship was analyzed with the databases of two field studies with healthy adults, taking into consideration a differentiated assessment of the activities into the areas “sports and exercise”, “leisure time (without sports)” and “work” as well as examining health with objective and subjective parameters. Habitual physical activities and health depend on each other according to the results. However, the explained variance of health is very low in total, particularly, when characteristics like age, sex and education level were considered. On the other hand, physical activity (over all three domains) always contributes to the explanation of variance of the considered health outcomes. Physical exercise is the strongest factor, even if personal characteristics were controlled. A linear relationship can be seen between physical exercise and self-perceived health. Physical activities in leisure time or at work are clearly not that important for health. The importance of special qualities of physical activities in different settings for health must be test with further analyzes.
