Persönliche Ziele von Mathematikern beim Berufseinstieg
Ein Vergleich offener und geschlossener Erhebungsmethoden
Abstract
Summary: This study analyzed personal goals of 609 university graduates assessed via both open-ended questions and standardized rating scales. Three topics are addressed: (a) The content structure of personal goals, (b) the convergent validity of both measures, and (c) the interrelationship between personal goals and occupational criterion variables (occupational expectation, present occupational situation). The postulated content structure of the personal goals was found for both measures. Goals could be differentiated into outcome goals (e.g., career success) and process goals (e.g., occupational learning). Similar goal contents were correlated across the methods, the correlation sizes, however, were small due to the measures' different levels of specificity. Both goal measures correlated in a similar way with outcome and self-efficacy expectations and they both differentiated between the occupational groups. In accordance with our theoretical assumption there was a clear correspondence between both outcome-oriented career goals and process-oriented development and learning goals with a person's present occupational situation, whereas other goals such as emotional goals or goals concerning relationships were unrelated to this variable.
